How do I download the software? Your confirmation email contains a Web address where you will find download links for Atomic Microscope. On that page, select your platform and whether you would like a single-file installer or diskettes. Click the appropriate links and select "Save file..." in your browser. When prompted, save files to your desktop. The file(s) you download are required for installation only. Once you have completed the installation step, you may remove these installer files. How do I install the software? Once you have downloaded the software, you will be able to double-click on the icon to run the installer. If you have downloaded the diskette version, then you must double-click the icon of the first file you downloaded, AtomicMicroscopeInstaller.exe (AtomicMicroscope1 on Macintosh). The installation wizard will guide you through the installation process. Feel free to accept the default values, or to customize the information for your system. The installer didn't work. What happened? The installer program will not work if the installer file has not downloaded completely. Please check the size of the files that you downloaded and make sure that they match the file sizes that are specified on the download page. You may need to clear your browser's cache and try the download again. If you still have trouble, send email to support@starkdesign.com and describe which files you had difficulty downloading. How do I activate the software? The first time you start Atomic Microscope, you will be asked to activate your software. Internet access is required for this step. Please sign up at our Newsletter page to be included in our mailing list. How do I set up the software for a Lab? Our multiple-seat licenses may be installed on a server computer in a computer lab, and then accessed remotely by each workstation in the lab. They may also be setup on "master workstation" computers where file and registry data are copied onto each workstation computer as it boots up. For detailed instructions on how to proceed with this configuration, click here. Alternatively, you may install the software individually on each computer in your lab. The drawback of this method is that each computer must be activated individually. With each computer, proceed as you would on a single computer. click here for more information. We will contact you via email when we have updates that are available. Please note that sales do not necessary include free major version upgrades. What are the DirectX-related issues? On the Windows platform, Atomic Microscope requires DirectX version 3 or better. This library from Microsoft has been included with Windows 95 (2nd release) and later. Users of Windows NT are required to have service pack 4 or better. Click here to link to Microsoft's DirectX download site. What are the keyboard shortcuts? Please check the Help section in the Service page (4th tab) of Atomic Microscope to view a list of keyboard shortcuts. How do I take screenshots of the software? Click here for instructions on how to take screenshots using Windows. Click here for instructions on how to take screenshots using Macintosh. How do I change the user folder? Click here for instructions on how to change the folder where custom user files are saved. The default location is in the Resources\SavedStates folder where the software was installed (typically C:\Program Files\Stark Design\Resources\SavedStates on Windows). Saved states are saved to this folder, so the user must have write access to this folder to be able to save states within the software. How do I install a screensaver (Windows)? Click here for instructions on how to install a screensaver using Windows 9x or NT. There are currently no known bugs in the latest version of Atomic Microscope.
